Australian artist-run initiatives

Ok kiddo, so an artist-run initiative (ARI) is basically a group of artists who work together to create cool art stuff. They usually don't have a big fancy building like a museum or gallery, but they find a space like a warehouse or a storefront that they can use to show their art to people.

In Australia, there are lots of ARIs because artists want to have a place where they can have control over what they show and how they show it. Sometimes they even have special events where people can come see the art and talk to the artists about their work.

But, because ARIs don't have a lot of money, they have to get creative with how they keep things going. They might have a donation jar or sell artworks to help pay for things like rent, electricity, and supplies. Some ARIs even have volunteers who help out with running the space.

So, when you hear about an Australian artist-run initiative, it just means a group of really cool artists working together to make awesome art and share it with other people in the community!
