ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Australian pub

An Australian pub is like a restaurant where grown-ups go to eat, drink and have fun with their friends. Just like how you go to a playground to play and have fun with your friends. But, in a pub, there are no slides or swings, instead, there are tables and chairs for people to sit and enjoy their food and drinks.

The pub has a big counter with a person called a bartender who serves drinks like lemonade, soda, and even grown-up drinks like beer and wine. The bartender also takes orders for food which is cooked in a kitchen that is attached to the pub.

There are usually big TVs in pubs which show sports like football or cricket because many people in Australia love these sports. People in pubs also like to play games like pool or darts with their friends.

Unlike other restaurants, people in pubs sometimes sing songs together or have a dance because pubs are also a place where people perform music.

To go to a pub, you have to be with your grown-up who will take care of you and make sure you don't drink grown-up drinks. Pubs are fun places to hang out with friends and family and have a good time.
