ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Australian region tropical cyclone

Okay, so have you ever seen a really big storm outside? Like a really, REALLY big one? Well, sometimes those storms can get even bigger and they're called tropical cyclones.

Now, in Australia there is a place where it's always warm and rainy, and that's called the tropical region. Sometimes, when it's really warm and rainy, a tropical cyclone develops.

These cyclones are like big circles of really strong wind and heavy rain, and they start in the ocean. They can be really dangerous because they can make big waves and flood, knock down buildings, and hurt people or animals.

As soon as people know that a tropical cyclone is coming, they get ready to be safe. They might leave their homes and go somewhere safer, or they might cover their windows and doors with big boards.

So, it's important to remember that tropical cyclones are just really big and scary storms that happen in warm and rainy places like the Australian region. Stay safe and listen to the grown-ups around you if one is coming!
