ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Autism spectrum disorder

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a term used to describe the way some people's brains work differently than others. This can make it hard for them to communicate, play with others, and understand things like emotions and social cues.

Imagine that our brains are like computers, and they all come with different programs already installed. People with Autism Spectrum Disorder have different programs installed in their brains than people without it. These programs can make it hard for them to understand and connect with other people's programs.

Just like some people wear glasses or hearing aids to help them see or hear better, people with Autism Spectrum Disorder might need different kinds of help to make things easier for them. This could mean working with a speech therapist to improve their communication skills, or having a visual schedule to help them understand what they are supposed to do during the day.

It's important to remember that just because someone has Autism Spectrum Disorder, it doesn't mean they can't do amazing things or have a happy life. They just might need some extra support and understanding along the way.
