ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Automatic and controlled processes

Hey there! So, have you ever played a video game or done something that you're really good at, like riding a bike or tying your shoes? You probably don't have to think too much about it when you do it, right?

That's because those things have become automatic processes - your brain has practiced them so much that you can do them without really thinking about it.

But there are other things that you have to think more about, like solving a math problem or learning a new skill. These are called controlled processes, because you have to actively work to do them.

So, automatic processes are like habits - things you can do without really thinking about it. Controlled processes are like studying - things that require more effort and focus.

Does that make sense to you?
