Automatic number plate recognition

Have you ever seen a camera that takes pictures of cars' license plates and then magically tells people who owns the car or whether it is allowed to be on the road or not? That's what we call Automatic Number Plate Recognition or ANPR in short.

It works like this: The camera takes a picture of your license plate as you drive by or park in a specific location. Then, a computer program reads the letters and numbers on your license plate and compares them to a database.

This database can have a lot of different things in it, like whether the car is stolen or if the owner of the car hasn't paid their taxes. If the license plate matches something on the database, the computer can send an alert to a police officer or someone else who needs to know.

ANPR can be really helpful for catching criminals or people who are breaking the law. But some people also worry that it could be used to spy on people or invade their privacy. So, it's important to use it responsibly and for the right reasons.
