Automatic speech is when a computer can listen to people talking and understand what they are saying. It's like having a robot friend who can hear you and talk back to you too!
First, the computer needs to have special ears called microphones. These little ears can pick up sound waves which are like little vibrations in the air. The computer then turns these sound waves into something it can understand, which are called digital signals.
Next, the computer needs to figure out what words you are saying. It does this by comparing the sounds it hears to a list of words it already knows. This is kind of like when you try to guess what someone is saying by hearing the beginning of the word.
Once the computer figures out what you are saying, it can respond to you. It might say something back to you or do something like turn on the lights or play your favorite song.
It's important to remember that the computer isn't actually understanding what you are saying like a person would. It's just matching the sounds it hears to words it already knows. But it's still pretty cool that computers can talk to us and help us do things!
