ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ayre (landform)

Hi kiddo! So, today we're going to talk about an ayre, which is a really cool landform.

Imagine you're at the beach and you see a big pile of sand with a hole in it. That's kind of what an ayre looks like! Except, it's not a man-made pile of sand, it's made naturally by the wind blowing lots of sand around.

An ayre is a circular or oval-shaped mound of sand that's found in really flat areas, like on a sandy beach or in a desert. Sometimes ayres are big enough for people to walk or climb on, but other times they're really small and hard to see.

Now, you might be wondering why the sand piles up in a circle like that. Well, it's because the wind blows the sand around and around in a circle, and the sand gets trapped in the middle. Over time, more and more sand builds up in the center, creating a mound.

So, there you have it! An ayre is a natural landform made from piles of sand that get blown around in circles by the wind. How cool is that?!
