The BBC Domesday Project was a project that used computers in 1986 to make a multimedia record of the United Kingdom. People living in the UK were asked to write stories and take pictures of their part of the country. These stories and pictures were stored in a special book called the Domesday Book and stored on a computer disc called the Laserdisc. The Laserdisc had lots of information, such as street maps and photos of famous places. People could use the Laserdisc to look up information about the UK. The project was created to help people learn more about the UK and to give the public access to information that was not always available.
