Backward evolution

Backward evolution is something that some people think happens when an animal or plant starts to change in a way that is different to the way it changed in the past. For example, if something like a flower used to have lots of petals but now only has one petal, this could be an example of backward evolution. Some people think that evolution can sometimes happen backwards, but there is not much proof to show this is true.
