ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Balance bicycle

A balance bicycle is a special kind of bicycle that helps kids learn how to balance on two wheels before they move on to a regular bike. It looks like a regular bike, but it doesn't have pedals or training wheels. Instead, the child uses their feet to push themselves forward and keep themselves upright.

When a child sits on a balance bike, they can move themselves forward by pushing off the ground with their feet. As they start to go faster, they lift their feet up and glide along on two wheels. Because the bike is low to the ground and doesn't have pedals, it's much easier for kids to learn how to balance on their own. They can put their feet down whenever they start to feel wobbly, which helps them feel more confident and secure.

As kids get more comfortable on their balance bike, they start to develop the skills they need to ride a regular bike. They learn how to steer, how to balance their weight, and how to brake. Once they've mastered these skills, they can graduate to a regular bike with pedals and ride off into the sunset!
