Imagine you are playing with play dough or clay, and you have a flat piece of it in front of you. Now imagine you take a pencil or a straw and push it into the play dough, leaving a round mark. This is what people did a long, long time ago on rocks. They wanted to make marks on the rocks to show something special. These special marks are called cup and ring marks.
The Ballochmyle cup and ring marks are special cup and ring marks that were made long ago on rocks in Scotland. They are very interesting because they look like circles that have lines going through them. Just like the marks you made on your play dough, the people who made these marks used a tool to make circles on the rock. And then they used another tool to make lines going through the circles, making them look like a spider web.
Some people think that the Ballochmyle cup and ring marks were made by the first people who lived in Scotland a very long time ago, called the Neolithic people. They made these marks as a way to show something important to them. But we don't know for sure what those marks mean, it's a big mystery!
