Banaue Rice Terraces

Okay, so the Banaue Rice Terraces are like a really big garden that some people made a long time ago in the Philippines. But instead of being flat like a normal garden, it's on the side of a mountain! The people who made it were really smart and they figured out how to make steps that go up the mountain so they could plant rice in different levels.

Since plants need water to grow, they also figured out how to make little pools on each level so that the water would stay there longer and help the rice grow better. They also made channels or "irrigation systems" to help move water from one level to another.

Nowadays, the Banaue Rice Terraces are known as a really special and beautiful place. Lots of people come to visit and take pictures of the pretty green fields that stretch all the way up the side of the mountain. Farmers still plant rice there, just like their ancestors did, and it's really important to the people who live nearby.
