ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Banksman

Okay kiddo, you know how sometimes big trucks need to go in reverse and it's hard for the driver to see what's behind them? Well, that's where a banksman comes in! A banksman is like a helper who stands outside the truck and tells the driver when it's safe to move the truck backwards.

But it's not just about telling the driver when to go backwards. The banksman also helps the driver park the truck and guides them through tight spaces. This is really important because if a truck driver accidentally hits something or someone while backing up, it could be really dangerous!

The banksman uses hand signals to communicate with the driver. For example, if they want the driver to stop, they hold up their hand like a stop sign. If they want the driver to keep going, they make a sweeping motion with their arm.

Being a banksman can be hard work because it requires a lot of concentration and communication with the driver. But it's an important job to keep everyone safe around big trucks!
