Barley malt syrup

Okay kiddo, so barley malt syrup is a type of sweet syrup that is made from barley. Do you know what barley is? It’s a grain that is kind of like wheat or oats.

So, to make barley malt syrup, first the barley grains are soaked in water and then they are sprouted. What does sprouted mean? Remember when we grew bean sprouts in class? Well, the barley gets kind of like that, it starts to grow little tails.

Once the barley has sprouted, it is roasted in an oven to make it brown and toasty. This is what gives the syrup its rich flavor. Then, hot water is poured over the roasted barley and the liquid that comes out is boiled down until it becomes thick and syrupy, like honey.

Barley malt syrup has a sweet and nutty taste, so it’s often used as a natural sweetener in things like baked goods or energy bars. It’s also full of nutrients like B vitamins and antioxidants, so it’s a healthier alternative to other sweeteners like sugar or corn syrup.

So there you have it, barley malt syrup is a yummy and healthy type of syrup that’s made from barley grains that have been sprouted and roasted.
