ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Barratry (admiralty law)

Barratry is a big law word that means illegal or unethical behavior by a person who represents someone in a legal case related to shipping or the ocean (called admiralty law). Think of it this way - if you are playing a game with your friends and someone cheats by breaking the rules, that's kinda like barratry.

In admiralty law, a person who represents someone (like a lawyer) is supposed to follow strict rules and act in the best interest of their client. This means they should not do things like lie, cheat, or take advantage of their client.

If they do, they are committing barratry. It's not good and can get them in trouble with the law. So always play fair and be honest when you're dealing with legal matters related to ships and the ocean!
