ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Basal reader

Hey kiddo, have you ever read a book in school that was really easy and had big letters and pictures? That's called a basal reader! Basal readers are books that are written specifically for kids who are just learning how to read.

They have simple words and sentences that are designed to help you practice reading and understanding the meaning of what you're reading. The books usually have pictures too, to help you understand what's going on in the story.

Sometimes your teacher will give you a basal reader to take home and practice reading with your parents. And when you get really good at reading, you can move on to more advanced books without pictures that are even more fun!

So, in simpler words, basal reader is like a special book your teacher uses to help you learn how to read. It has easy words, pictures, and helps you practice reading.
