ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Base curve radius

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a curved surface like a bowl or a ball? The base curve radius is just like that - it tells us how curved a contact lens is! Imagine putting a contact lens on a ball - it would need to be curved to fit, right?

The base curve radius is the measure of how much that contact lens hugs the eyeball. Just like how your sock needs to fit snugly on your foot to be comfortable and stay put, a contact lens needs to fit the curve of the eye to be comfortable and stay in place. So, if someone has a really steeply curved eyeball, they might need a contact lens with a smaller base curve radius to fit properly.

It's all about finding the right fit for each person's eyes so they can see clearly and feel comfortable wearing their contact lenses all day long!
