Basic life support

Basic life support (BLS) is the way to help people who are very sick or injured and need help right away. It's like being a superhero who saves lives! BLS involves following a set of simple steps to give the person the best chance of surviving until more advanced help arrives.

The first thing to do in BLS is to check if the person is responsive. This means seeing if they wake up or respond to your voice or touch. If they don't respond, it's important to call for help right away. This means telling someone nearby to call 911 or your local emergency number if you are alone.

Next, you need to check if the person is breathing. This means looking to see if their chest is moving and listening for any sounds of breathing. If they're not breathing, you need to start rescue breathing. This means putting your mouth over the person's mouth and blowing air into their lungs.

If the person has a heartbeat but isn't breathing, you can perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation). This means pushing down on the person's chest to keep their blood flowing until the ambulance arrives.

BLS also involves making sure the person is safe and comfortable. This means keeping them warm and trying to prevent any further injury or harm.

Remember to always stay calm and focused when performing BLS. You may be the only chance the person has for survival, so it's important to act quickly and confidently.
