Basiliscus (genus)

Basiliscus is a special group of animals with scaly skin called lizards. They live in places with lots of water like forests near rivers and streams. They have long tails and their toes are really special because they have flaps of skin between them that work like swimming flippers. This helps them swim and dash across the water really fast.

These lizards are also pretty talented at hiding. They're very good at blending in with the leaves and branches around them so they don't get eaten by bigger animals. But if they do get caught, they can also puff up their bodies to look bigger and more dangerous, kind of like a pufferfish in the water.

Basiliscus lizards are really interesting because some people believe they have magical powers. Some ancient stories tell of a basilisk lizard that could kill things just by looking at them. But we know that's not true, right? The real Basiliscus lizards are just very unique creatures with amazing talents.
