Okay kiddo, do you like coloring and painting? Batik is a special kind of painting on cloth that grown-ups do. It comes from Indonesia, a country far away.
Here's how it works: first, the grown-ups use a special tool called a "canting" to draw a design with hot wax on a piece of cloth. The wax hardens on the cloth and stops the paint from going through it.
Then, the grown-ups dip the cloth in colorful paint. The paint goes everywhere except where there's wax, so the design stays white. They keep repeating this process with different colors until the design is all filled in.
Afterwards, the grown-ups carefully remove the wax by ironing the cloth between sheets of paper. The wax melts and is absorbed by the paper, leaving a beautiful, colorful design on the cloth!
People use batik to make dresses, shirts, scarves, and many other things. It's a really cool way to make clothes look special and unique.
