ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Bayou

Hey kiddo, do you know what a swamp is? It's a place where there's lots of water and plants and bugs and animals. Well, a bayou is kind of like a swamp, but in the southern part of the United States.

It's a really cool and unique ecosystem where you can find all kinds of plants and animals that you might not see in other parts of the country. And because there's so much water, there are also special ways that people have learned to live and work in the bayou.

There are boats called "pirogues" that people use to get around, and they fish for things like crawfish and catfish. They even have big festivals where they cook and eat lots of crawfish!

So, think of a bayou like a special kind of swamp with its own way of life and lots of yummy seafood.
