ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Beach soccer

Beach soccer is a game that is played on the sand at the beach instead of on a grass field like regular soccer. It is a lot like regular soccer, but there are a few differences.

First, instead of playing with 11 players on each team, beach soccer is played with only five players on each team. That means there are fewer people running around on the sand trying to kick the ball!

Second, the field is much smaller than a regular soccer field. It is normally about 30-40 meters long and 20-30 meters wide. This way, it is easier to play on the sand because you don't have to run as far.

Third, the game is played in shorter periods called "thirds" instead of halves. Each third is only 12 minutes long, so the game goes by very quickly!

Fourth, there are no throw-ins in beach soccer. If the ball goes out of bounds, the team that didn't kick it out gets to kick it back in from the side using their hands.

Lastly, beach soccer is played barefoot or with special beach socks because regular soccer cleats can be slippery on the sand. It's important to have good traction to run and kick the ball properly.

The objective of beach soccer is the same as regular soccer – to score goals! The team that scores the most goals by kicking the ball into the other team's goal wins the game. Players use their feet, legs, chest, and head to control and kick the ball just like in regular soccer. They try to pass the ball to their teammates to create scoring opportunities and defend their own goal to prevent the other team from scoring.

Beach soccer is a really fun and active game to play at the beach. It combines the excitement of soccer with the joy of playing in the sand and enjoying the sunny beach weather. So, if you ever get a chance to play beach soccer, give it a try!
