ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Beaumont Island (Greenland)

Okay kiddo, so there is a really big place called Greenland which is a special land way up north near the North Pole. And on this big land there is an island called Beaumont Island.

Now this island is special because it is made of ice! You know how sometimes you put water in the freezer and it becomes ice? Well, sometimes when it is really cold outside, the water on top of Beaumont Island also becomes ice and that is what makes the island.

But this ice island is not the same as the ice cubes in your freezer. It is huge and covers a lot of ground! So big that it is actually one of the biggest floating ice islands in the world!

Scientists like to study this island because they want to learn more about our planet and how it is changing. You see, the ice on the island is melting and researchers want to understand why so they can figure out how to help protect our planet.

So there you have it, an explanation of Beaumont Island in a way that a five-year-old can understand!
