ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Bechdel test

Okay kiddo, have you ever watched a movie or a TV show and noticed that there are not many girls or women in it? Or maybe the girls and women in the story only talk about boys and men?

This is where the Bechdel test comes in. It's a way to see whether a movie or a TV show has enough important female characters and that they talk to each other about something other than men.

To pass the Bechdel test, a movie or a TV show must meet these three criteria:

1. It must have at least two female characters with names.
2. These female characters must talk to each other.
3. They must talk to each other about something other than a man.

This test is important because it shows us how much representation women have in the media. It's a way to see if women are only there to support male characters.

So next time you watch a movie or a TV show, try to see if it passes the Bechdel test. It's a fun way to see if girls and women are being treated fairly in the world of entertainment!
