Beggar thy neighbour is when one country tries to get an advantage over another country by taking measures that help them, but hurt the other country. This could be things like cutting taxes, or raising tariffs on imports, or printing more money. All of these things make it hard for the other country to compete, and the country doing it ends up with more money or resources. It's like when people beg for money from those around them instead of getting a job.
