Okay, so you know how sometimes we go to the doctor to make sure we are healthy? Well, there are people called scientists and researchers who want to make sure that lots of people in our community are healthy too.
The behavioral risk factor surveillance system is like a big check-up for our whole community. The scientists and researchers ask lots of grown-ups questions about their daily habits, like what they eat, how much they exercise, and if they smoke or drink alcohol. They also ask about things that might make people sick, like if they wear sunscreen or buckle their seat belts when they ride in a car.
By asking lots of people these questions, the scientists and researchers can figure out if there are things that lots of people in our community are doing that might be risky for their health. Then they can figure out ways to help our community be healthier and safer.
It's kind of like how we might ask our friends how they brush their teeth or eat their vegetables, but instead of just a few friends, scientists and researchers ask lots and lots of people in our grown-up community.
