Belgium and the Franco-Prussian War

Okay, kiddo, so a long time ago, there were two countries called France and Prussia. They didn't get along very well and they even went to war against each other. This war was called the Franco-Prussian War.

Belgium was a country that was right next to France and Prussia. They were worried that they might get caught up in the war too. Imagine if your neighbors were fighting and you were afraid their fighting might damage your home.

So, Belgium decided to stay neutral, which means they didn't take sides in the war. They even told France and Prussia that they wouldn't let either of them use their country to get to the other side.

But, Prussia wasn't happy about this and they wanted to use Belgium to get to France. So, they invaded Belgium! This made a lot of people upset and other countries, like Great Britain, decided to help Belgium fight against Prussia.

In the end, Prussia won the war and France had to give up some land to them. But, Belgium was able to stay independent and not get caught up in the fighting. And that's the story of how Belgium was involved in the Franco-Prussian War.
