Ben Franklin effect

Okay kiddo, have you ever heard of Ben Franklin? He was a very smart man who did a lot of good things for America a long, long time ago. Now, one thing he discovered is something called the "Ben Franklin effect."

So, let's say you don't really like someone. Maybe they did something mean to you or maybe you just don't know them very well. But, if you do something nice for that person, like helping them with their homework or giving them a cookie, something kinda weird happens. Your brain starts to think, "Hmm, I did something nice for that person. Maybe I actually kinda like them now." Even though you didn't like them before, doing something nice actually makes you like them more.

The Ben Franklin effect works because our brains like to be consistent. If we do something nice for someone, our brain wants to think we did it because we like them. So, we start to believe that we do like them, even if we didn't before.

Now, this doesn't mean you should go around doing nice things for people you don't like all the time. But, if you ever want to try to improve a relationship or make a new friend, doing something nice could help you feel more positive about the person. And that's the Ben Franklin effect!
