ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Bent-over row

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen someone pick up heavy things from the ground and lift them up to their chest? That's kind of what a bent-over row is like!

So, when you do a bent-over row, you stand up straight with your feet shoulder-width apart, and you hold a weight like a dumbbell or a barbell in your hands. Then, you bend your knees a little bit and lean forward at your hips, so your upper body is kind of parallel to the ground.

From there, you pull the weight up towards your chest (like you're trying to bring it up to give yourself a big hug!) and then slowly lower it back down to the starting position. You can do a few sets of these to work your back muscles and build strength.

It's important to remember that this exercise needs to be done carefully to avoid hurting your back. So, always make sure you're using proper form and start with a lighter weight until you feel comfortable before adding more weight.
