Berber cuisine

Berber cuisine is the food that the Berber people of North Africa eat. These people live in countries like Morocco, Algeria, Libya and Tunisia.

Just like any other cuisine, Berber cuisine has its own unique taste and methods of cooking. It is mostly based on the ingredients that are locally available, such as couscous, vegetables, fruits, meat, poultry and seafood.

Berber cuisine is also heavily influenced by the Mediterranean and Arab culinary traditions.

Some popular Berber dishes that you may have heard of are tagine, couscous, and harira soup. Tagine is a stew made of meat or chicken, vegetables and spices, cooked in a special earthenware pot called a tagine. Couscous is a grain dish, usually served with vegetables and meat. Harira soup is a thick and hearty soup made with lentils, chickpeas, tomatoes, spices and herbs.

Berber cuisine also has many traditional sweets and pastries, such as honey and almond cakes, dates and almond paste stuffed pastries, and sesame and honey nougat.
