ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Biba Model

The biba model is like playing with toys. You have some fancy toys that you want to keep nice and clean, and some not-so-fancy toys that are kind of dirty. You want to make sure that the dirty toys don't touch the nice toys and make them dirty too.

In computer terms, this means that there are some files and programs that you really want to keep safe, like your bank account information or your personal photos. And there are other files and programs that are not as important, like a game you downloaded from the internet. You want to make sure that the not-so-important things don't mess up the important things.

The biba model helps by setting rules for who can access different files and programs. It's kind of like having different rooms in your house for different things. Some rooms are for playing, some rooms are for cleaning up, and some rooms are for sleeping. You wouldn't want someone playing with toys in your sleeping room because it would be too loud and keep you awake.

In the biba model, there are two main rules: the no-read-up rule and the no-write-down rule. Basically, what this means is that you can only access things that are at the same level or lower than you. So if you're a cleaner, you can't go into the playroom and start playing with the toys. And if you're a player, you can't go into the sleeping room and start jumping on the bed.

This helps to keep your files and programs safe because only the people who are allowed to access them can actually access them. And if someone tries to access something they're not supposed to, the biba model will stop them and not let them in. It's like having a security guard at the door of each room in your house, making sure everyone stays in their own rooms and doesn't try to go where they're not supposed to.
