ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Big Chocolate

Big chocolate refers to the largest multinational corporations that produce and sell chocolate products around the world. These corporations have a lot of money and power, and they can use their resources to influence the chocolate industry.

Think of it like a big playground where the biggest and strongest kids (the corporations) get to decide what games everyone plays and how they're played. The other kids (small chocolate companies or farmers) might not have as much say, and they might not get to play the games they want to.

Big chocolate companies are also known for using a lot of chocolate from farms that don't pay or treat their workers fairly. This means that some kids (the workers) might be working very hard and not getting paid a fair amount, or they might not have safe working conditions.

So, while we all love chocolate, it's important to remember that big chocolate might not always be fair or sustainable in the way they treat their workers or compete with other companies. It's important to support smaller chocolate producers who make tasty treats while also treating their workers and the planet with respect.
