ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Bilge

Imagine you're in a big boat and sailing in the water. Sometimes, water gets inside the boat, and that's not good. To get rid of this water, there is a small space in the bottom of the boat called the bilge. Think of it as a small bathtub for the boat. The water collects in the bilge, and then there is a pump that sucks the water out of the boat and into the ocean. This makes sure that your boat stays dry and doesn't sink. So, the bilge is a special area in a boat that collects any water that gets inside and makes sure it is emptied out so the boat can stay afloat.
