Bilingualism in Hong Kong

Hey there kiddo! Have you ever met someone who speaks more than one language? That's called being bilingual! In Hong Kong, lots of people are bilingual because the city has two official languages: Cantonese and English.

People in Hong Kong started speaking English when the British took over the city a long time ago. Even though Hong Kong is now part of China, many people still speak English because it's important for business and education. But lots of people also still speak Cantonese because it's part of their culture and history.

Being bilingual in Hong Kong can be really helpful because it means you can communicate with people from different backgrounds. But it can also be a bit challenging because you have to switch between two different languages depending on who you're talking to.

People in Hong Kong are really proud of their bilingualism, and they work hard to make sure both Cantonese and English are respected and understood in the city. So if you ever visit Hong Kong, don't be surprised if you hear people speaking both languages all around you!
