ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Binary scaling

Binary scaling is a way of counting using two numbers, 0 and 1. The 0 stands for no, and the 1 stands for yes. We can use binary scaling to create a system of yes or no questions. So for example, if I asked you “Do you like ice cream?” you could answer with either 0 (for no) or 1 (for yes). Then if I asked you “Do you like pizza?” you could answer with either 0 (for no) or 1 (for yes). We can use binary scaling to count or keep track of things in a very basic way. It can help us answer questions like “How many people like ice cream?” or “How many people like pizza?”
