Bio-inspired photonics is a type of technology used to imitate the behaviour of natural systems or processes in order to create something new or improve existing technology. It's a bit like taking ideas from nature and applying them to photonics, the science of using light to transmit and control the flow of information. For example, scientists might study the way an insect's eye is designed and then use some of that same design when building cameras or other optical technology. By taking ideas from nature, engineers and scientists can come up with more efficient and effective ways to use light.
