Biocontainment of genetically modified organisms

Biocontainment means keeping living things from escaping where they are supposed to be. Genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, have been changed on purpose using scientific tools. Sometimes we change an organism's genes to make it better, like making plants grow faster or creating medicine. But if a GMO escapes into the wild, it can cause problems because people might not know how it will behave. That's why we need to put GMOs in special places called biocontainment facilities. These are like really strong, safe rooms or labs where the GMOs can't get out. They have special equipment and rules to make sure no GMOs escape. It's important to do this so we can keep ourselves and other living things safe.
