ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Biodrying

Okay, so imagine you have a lot of wet, yucky stuff like food waste, plants, and other goopy things. You don't want to just throw it away because that's bad for the environment. But you also don't want it to sit around and get yuckier and stinkier.

Biodrying is a way to make all that wet stuff dry and not so yucky anymore. It's kind of like when you leave your clothes out in the sun and they get all dry and crispy.

Here's how it works: first, all the wet stuff is mixed together and put in a big machine called a biodryer. This machine has big drums that spin around, like a giant clothes dryer.

As the drums spin around, hot air is blown through them, like a hair dryer. This hot air helps dry out all the wet stuff inside.

But wait, there's more! Inside the biodryer, there are special little bugs called microbes. These bugs like to eat all the yucky stuff in the wet stuff, like bacteria and mold.

So while the big drums are spinning and the hot air is blowing, the microbes are busy eating away at all the yucky stuff. This makes the wet stuff even less yucky and stinky.

When the biodrying process is done, what's left is a bunch of dry, crumbly stuff that's kind of like dirt. This stuff is called bio-solid. It's not as yucky as it was before, so now it can be safely used as fertilizer for plants.

See, biodrying is a way to take all the wet, yucky stuff we don't want and turn it into something useful that's good for the environment!
