ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Biometric device

A biometric device is like a magic box that can recognize you by looking at special parts of your body or how you move. It's kind of like when your mom or dad knows it's you just by the sound of your voice or the way you walk.

Some biometric devices use your fingerprint to know it's you. They have a special button you push that makes a picture of your finger and the lines and swirls on it. That information gets saved in the magic box. Then, every time you want to use the magic box, you put your finger on the special button again and it checks to see if it matches the picture it saved before. If it does, it lets you in!

Other biometric devices can use your face or your eyes to know it's you. They take a picture of your face or a scan of your eyes and save it in the magic box. Then, every time you want to use the magic box, you stand in front of a camera and it checks to see if your face or eyes match the picture it saved before. If they do, it lets you in!

Some people use biometric devices to keep their things safe, like their phone or their computer. If someone tries to take their things without permission, the biometric device won't let them in because it doesn't recognize their fingerprint, face, or eyes. It's a really cool way to keep your things safe!
