ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Biomolecule

Okay kiddo, so biomolecules are special types of molecules that are found in living things like people, animals and plants. They are kind of like building blocks that help make up our bodies and help us do things like move, think, and even breathe.

There are four main types of biomolecules: carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids.

Carbohydrates are like our body's source of fuel, they give us energy to do things like run and play. They are found in foods like fruits, breads, cereals and pasta.

Lipids are like fats and oils that are used to build our cell membranes which protect our cells. They are also used to store energy in our body for when we need it later.

Proteins are like the workers in our body. They help us do things like digest food, move our muscles and fight off sickness.

Nucleic acids are like our body's instruction manual. They tell our cells how to grow and function properly, and are found in our DNA and RNA.

So, biomolecules are very important molecules that help make up our body and keep us healthy and strong!
