ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Biophysical chemistry

Biophysical chemistry is the study of how chemistry and physics work together to affect how living things work. It is like a mix of biology (the study of living things) and chemistry (the study of elements and compounds) and physics (the study of matter and energy). In biophysical chemistry, scientists look at all the chemical and physical forces that affect the way living things work. They look at how these forces interact and change things like how living cells move, grow and reproduce, and how proteins fold, or move into special shapes. Biophysical chemists also use their knowledge to develop medicines, create new materials, and even understand how climate change is affecting living things.
