Okay kiddo! Let's talk about a biotope. A biotope is like a big neighborhood for specific types of plants and animals. Just like how people in a neighborhood have different houses, yards, and communities, plants and animals in a biotope have different environments they live in.
For example, if we were looking at a biotope that is made up of a lake, we would find different types of fish, plants, and insects that live in and around the lake. Some fish might prefer to live near the shore where the water is shallow and others might prefer to live in the deeper parts of the lake. Similarly, some plants might grow better in the shallow parts of the water where there is more sunlight while others might need to be fully submersed.
All of these living things within the biotope rely on each other to survive. The fish might eat the insects, the plants provide oxygen for the fish to breathe, and the insects might help pollinate the plants.
It's important to pay attention to biotopes and make sure we are taking care of them! We wanna make sure all the living things have a healthy and happy home to live in.
