Bison bison

Bison bison is a big and fluffy animal that lives in North America. It looks a lot like a cow, but with really big horns and a very thick coat of hair.

You might have heard people call these animals "buffalo," but they are actually bison. Bison are very special because they used to roam all across North America in the millions, but now there are only a few hundred thousand left.

Bison are very important to the environment because they help keep the grasslands healthy. They eat a lot of grass, which helps prevent the grass from getting too long and reduces the risk of wildfires.

People used to hunt bison for food and their fur, which caused their population to decline. But now, people are working to protect them and their habitat, so that bison can live healthy and happy lives in the wild.
