ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Bitcoin network

Imagine a world where all money was made of little digital coins that you could send to anyone else in the world without having to go to a bank or use cash. This world exists, and it's called the Bitcoin network!

The Bitcoin network is like a big computer program that keeps track of all the digital coins that people send to each other. This program runs on lots and lots of different computers all over the world, and they all work together to make sure that nobody cheats or tries to steal someone else's coins.

When you want to send some coins to someone else, you have to tell the Bitcoin program about it. The program makes a note of your transaction and checks to see if you actually have enough coins to send. Then it sends your coins to the person you wanted to send them to.

The cool thing is, even though there are lots of different computers running the Bitcoin program, they all agree on which transactions are real and which ones aren't. This is because the program uses a special kind of math called cryptography to make sure that nobody can trick it into thinking that a fake transaction is real.

So, the Bitcoin network is basically like a big computer program that keeps track of everyone's digital coins and makes sure nobody cheats. It's like a piggy bank that's so big that everyone in the world can use it!
