Black people and early Mormonism

Okay, so a long time ago, there was a man named Joseph Smith, who founded a religion called Mormonism. Some people who followed this religion believed that black people were cursed because of something that happened in the Bible. They thought that black people were not as good as other people and they were not allowed to join their church or do certain things in the church, like become leaders.

This was a big problem because America had slavery back then, which means that some people could own other people and force them to work without paying them. Many black people were slaves, and Mormonism was supposed to be a religion that was against slavery and for treating everyone equally.

Eventually, the leaders of the Mormon church changed their minds and decided that black people could join their church and do everything that everyone else could do. This was a really important and good thing because it meant that Mormonism was becoming more fair and equal for everyone. However, some people were still upset and disagree with this decision, even today.

So basically, there were some people in early Mormonism who thought black people were not as good as other people, but the leaders of the church changed their minds and decided that everyone should be treated equally.
