Black tie

Okay kiddo, so you know when we go to a fancy party or event and everyone is dressed up really nice? Well, some of those parties are even more special and they have something called a dress code. One of the dress codes that you might hear of is called black tie.

Now, you might think that means everyone has to wear black ties around their necks, but it's actually a little more complicated than that. Black tie means that the guys (and sometimes girls too!) have to wear a specific kind of fancy outfit.

For guys, this outfit usually includes a fancy black jacket that goes down to their hips. It has special buttons and a silk collar. They also wear black pants that match the jacket, and a special kind of white shirt that has pleats in the front and fancy buttons. And yes, they do wear a black tie with all of this!

In addition to the clothes, guys will also wear special shoes that look really shiny and maybe even a special kind of socks. Some guys might even wear a pocket square (which is like a handkerchief that goes in their pocket) that matches their tie.

So basically, black tie means dressing up really fancy in a specific way. It's a way to show respect for a special occasion or event. And if you see someone wearing black tie, you know they put a lot of thought and effort into their outfit!
