ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Blondin (quarry equipment)

Blondin is a big machine that is used to carry rocks or dirt from one place to another in a quarry. It is like a big rope with a bucket attached to it that can move up and down.

Imagine you want to move heavy toys from one side of the room to the other. You can't lift them all by yourself, so you tie a rope to the toys and make a pulley system. This is like a Blondin. The rope is attached to a big pole, which is fixed in the ground, and a motor makes the rope go up and down. The toys go up and down with the rope, and you can move them easily from one side of the room to the other.

In the quarry, the Blondin is used to lift a bucket filled with rocks or dirt from the quarry floor up to a higher point where it is needed. This can be on the side of the quarry or even across a road or river. The bucket then dumps its load, and the Blondin lowers the bucket back down to the floor to start again.

Blondins are really useful in quarries because they can move heavy loads quickly and efficiently without needing to use trucks or other heavy equipment. They deserve a pat on the back!
