Blood atonement

Blood atonement is a religious belief used by some churches that says if someone has done something really bad, they can have their blood spilled (or they can give up their own life) in order to receive forgiveness from God. It's kind of like when you do something wrong and your parents make you do something special to make it right. In this case, doing something special means spilling blood.
