A blood transfusion is when a person gets new blood. In Sri Lanka, blood transfusions can be used if someone is very sick or has lost a lot of blood. Doctors give the person new blood to try and make them better. The new blood can come from a donor, which is someone who donates their blood to help other people. Donors must go through a process to make sure the blood is safe for people to use. After doing some tests, the donor's blood will either be accepted or rejected for use. If the donor's blood can be used, it will then be tested again and mixed with other donor's blood to make sure it is healthy and safe to use. The mixed blood is then given to the person who needs it through an IV (a tube in their arm), and it replaces their old blood. This can help them get better and stay healthy.
